Revisiting the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Are you taking Advantage?

Revisiting the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022
It’s been about 2 years since the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 took effect. One part of this act created federal tax credits for homeowners who make energy-efficient updates. Some of these credits are fairly substantial. For example, homeowners can save up to $2,000 by updating to an eligible energy-efficient heat pump.

Have you taken advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act to make energy-efficient updates to your home’s HVAC system yet? If not, allow us to make a few suggestions.

Air Conditioner Replacement

Has your air conditioner been struggling this summer? If your home is barely reaching the temperature selected on your thermostat, or if your AC unit is making unusual noises, it might be time for a replacement. You’re usually better off replacing a working AC when it’s 10 or 12 years old rather than waiting for it to die completely.

As long as you choose a qualifying Energy Star Certified air conditioner, you may be eligible to receive a tax credit for your AC replacement. You can receive credits for first-time central air installation, too. This could be the perfect time to schedule ductless mini-split installation in your home. Note, the new system must meet specific energy efficiency criteria, and homeowners should verify that their chosen unit is eligible by talking to a reputable HVAC provider.

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps work differently from your average furnace or boiler. Instead of burning fuel to generate heat, they move heat. In other words, they use electricity to power a refrigerant system that moves heat from outside your home, in for heating, or vice versa, for cooling.

Heat pumps are very energy efficient, and they often result in much lower energy bills than electric furnaces. Plus, they qualify you for federal tax credits specified in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. H & H is proud to install dual fuel heat pumps, which have a backup “furnace” to generate heat when temperatures are at their lowest. We offer reversible, hybrid heat pumps that can cool your home, too.

If you’re not sure whether your current heating system is in need of replacement, consider scheduling a heating system check-up. Our expert technicians will evaluate your system’s performance and advise you on any recommended repairs or replacements.

Water Heater Replacement

High-efficiency water heaters, such as heat pump water heaters, are generally covered under the Inflation Reduction Act. New hot water heaters are much more efficient than those that were made a few years ago. So, if yours is more than a decade or so old, it’s time to consider a replacement. Make sure to check eligibility with your HVAC company as some traditional water heaters may not qualify.

Here are some key signs you need a new hot water heater:

  • Your energy bills have gone up with no other explanation.
  • You have to turn the thermostat way up to get hot water.
  • There are drips of water around your hot water tank.
